The International Friendship Tours of South Africa were started in
1986 and have become a major project of the Knysna Rotary Club. In
1993 it was decided to expand this project to other countries and
Friendship Tours organised by the Knysna Club have visited Turkey,
Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, New England, Russia and Croatia..
All tours include opportunities for Rotary meetings and fellowship
with local Rotarians. The object of the tours is to promote Friendship
and Goodwill amongst Rotarians world-wide and to create a better understanding
of different countries and their cultures. |

| More than 700 Rotarians
and their wives from 18 different countries have travelled with us
on these tours and lasting friendships have been made. |
Although not designed as a fund-raiser, profits from the tours are
used to assist underprivileged members of the local community. The
success of this project has prompted tour participants to introduce
the same concept to their own clubs and Friendship Tours of their
own countries have been arranged by Rotary Clubs in Turkey, Norway,
Australia, Canada, Brazil and Finland. |
