LIMA - URUBAMBA, SACRED VALLEY OF THE INCAS
After breakfast, get acquainted with Peru’s Capital City, its 2,000 years of
history and Colonial heritage. Tour the Historical Centre of the city and
visit Casa Luna, where the owners will welcome you to their home and show
you their unique collection of Nativity scenes.
Transfer to the airport for the flight to Cusco.
On arrival, you will be met and transferred to Urubamba, to check in at the
charming SOL Y LUNA Lodge & Spa, in a dramatic setting of mountains and
valleys in the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Spend two nights here.

SACRED VALLEY OF THE INCAS
Today you explore the Sacred Valley of the Incas. A
visit to the Inca fortress of Ollantaytambo, will give you a good idea of
what an Inca town must have looked like five centuries ago. Stroll through
the quaint streets and marvel at the remarkable stone blocks used to build
the town walls.
Rich soil, ideal weather and a millennium of wisdom have combined to make
the Sacred Valley one of the most fertile areas in the world. You will be
able to indulge in its bounty at a gastronomic feast at the Wayra Ranch,
while watching a stunning equestrian demonstration, to the rhythm of
marinera music.
After lunch, visit the Pisac Market, where you will have the opportunity of
haggling with vendors at the local handicrafts market. |

VALLEY OF THE INCAS – MACHU PICCHU
After breakfast take a train ride in a Vistadome coach, to Machu Picchu. On
arrival at Aquas Calientes, take a 25 minute coach ride up the mountain to
“The Lost City of the Incas”, discovered by American explorer Hiram Bingham
in 1911.
Take a guided tour of the amazing citadel, visiting the Main Square, the
Temple of the Three Windows, the Circular Towers, the Sacred Sun Dial and
the Burial Grounds.
Buffet Lunch at the Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge.
Take the coach back to descend to Aquas Calientes for overnight at the
Inkaterra MACHU PICCHU PUEBLO HOTEL, a luxury 5* boutique hotel in a
sprawling Andean style village set in 12 acres of exquisite gardens filled
with orchids and humming birds. This is the place for nature lovers.

Morning at leisure . We recommend early rising to see the sunrise over Machu
Picchu. This is a once-in-a-lifetime sight. You will have the option of
returning to the ruins on your own without a guide and just wander through
the ruins savouring the mystical atmosphere of this special site. (Second
entrance fee not included).
In the afternoon, return to Ollanta by train. Upon arrival, you will be
transferred from the train station to Cusco where you spend the night at the
luxurious 5* LIBERTADOR HOTEL, former home of Francisco Pizarro, first
Spanish governor of Peru, located in the historical centre of the city

MACHU
PICCHU - CUSCO
Take a half day tour of this beautiful Colonial city, starting at the Santo
Domingo convent monastery, previously the Korichancha temple, one of the
most important temples devoted to the worship of the sun. According to
chronicles, it was covered in gold leaf and filled with golden statues.
Visit Ahuajpinta Street, alongside which sit the remains of Incan palaces
and old colonial buildings such as the Cathedral and the Museum of Colonial
Art.
Later, travel outside the city into the countryside to see some of the
remarkable Inca ruins – the impressive fortress of Sacsayhuaman, the temple
and ampitheatre of Qenko, Tambomachay (the Incan Baths) and the Red Fortress
of Pucara.
Afternoon at leisure to explore this beautiful city.
This evening enjoy a farewell dinner and show at the Don Antonio Restaurant. |

This is the top hotel in the area and the only hotel at the summit.
Recommended if you are seriously interested in archaeological ruins
and Inca history and wish to spend additional time at Machu Picchu
after the day trippers have left. However, the 5* Machu Picchu
Pueblo Hotel included in our itinerary is a delightful place to stay
and the little town of Aquas Calientes worth exploring.

The Orient Express Monasterio is a former monastery built in the
16th century and now one of Peru’s most luxurious hotels. It is
situated in the Main Square of Cusco.
The reason that the Monasterio is not included in our itinerary is
because of the price. We have selected the 5* Hotel Libertador in
Cusco (also housed in a 16th century building), as we have used it
in the past and found it to be excellent from the point of view of
location, atmosphere, service and price.
