China, with a recorded history of 5,000 years, was one of the world’s earliest civilisations. Our tour has been designed to capture the very best of this amazing country. It is an introduction to both old and modern China.
In Beijing, visit unforgettable sites such as the Forbidden City where 24 emperors of the Ming and Qing Dynasties ruled for 500 years, Tianamen Square, capable of holding a million people, have lunch with a family in Old Beijing and enjoy the breathtaking Kung Fu show. Walk the Great Wall at the less crowded Mutianyu section, marvel at the thousands of Terra Cotta Warriors in the ancient city of Xian, which once vied with Rome as the greatest city in the world. Travel back in time to China’s Golden Age at the remarkable Tang Dynasty Show.
Spend 3 days cruising through the scenic heart of the mighty Yangtze River, with spectacular scenery of gorges and mountain peaks. The guided shore excursions visit villages and sites steeped in the mystery of old China.
In the area around Guilin we visit some of the world’s most beautiful and unusual landscapes, and we marvel at the undulating patterns of rice fields on ancient terraces.
In the ancient city of Suzhou with its network of canals and bridges, famous for its gardens, beautiful women and silk, enjoy a cruise and a night show in one of the finest gardens in the city.
Shanghai, once known as “Paris of the Orient”, is today’s cosmopolitan China, where you explore the famous waterfront lined with lavishly restored colonial buildings, visit the magnificent Jade Buddha Temple, attend a tea ceremony and see the daring performance of the world renowned Shanghai Acrobat Troupe.
Feel like an emperor as you dine on Peking Duck, Dim Sum and other famous regional Chinese delicacies.
Since the revolution in 1949, Rotary activity in China has been limited. However, we will be having Rotary meetings with the two re-chartered Rotary Clubs of Beijing and Shanghai and they are looking forward to our visit.
Accommodation, mainly in 5 star and boutique hotels, has been handpicked.
